Lewis is to be watched! Somebody forgot to tell Seattle Mariner’s Kyle Lewis how hard this Major League game is for a rookie.

For the second straight night, the newly arrived 24-year-old broke up a no-hitter with a home run; this time it was a three-run shot off Reds right-hander Sonny Gray with one out in the seventh inning to help the Mariners to a 5-3 victory Wednesday at T-Mobile Park.

Lewis is just the third Mariner to homer in each of his first two career games, joining Alvin Davis (1984) and Kenji Johjima (2006), and just the 24th Major Leaguer since 1908 to pull off that feat.

In last week’s win over Nevada, University of Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo used 32 players on his side of the ball.

Arroyo’s regular rotation in games will usually be more like 15 or 16 guys, but the 77-6 victory allowed him to rotate in several younger players who now have game film to analyze and learn from for their next opportunity, whenever it might arise.  Against Montana Saturday, the pattern could repeat itself.

Arroyo’s counterpart on defense, AndyAvalos, also had more evaluations than usual to do when he reviewed the postgame film. The Ducks used 38 players on defense last week, and 29 of them made the final stat sheet. For Avalos, though, employing so many players will be the norm most weeks this season.

The first opportunity to enjoy a sneak peek of the new-look Portland Trail Blazers is less than a month away.

The Blazers have scheduled their annual Fan Fest scrimmage for Oct. 6, two days before their exhibition opener against the Denver Nuggets. For the first time, the event, which will begin at 4 p.m., will take place at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Fan Fest is a free, intra-squad scrimmage held annually during training camp to give fans a taste of their new team. The event will feature first-come, first-served general admission seating and free digital tickets are available online at trailblazers.com/fanfest.

Hear the entire Trailblazer season on CBS Sports Radio The Winner, 106.5FM/1240AM, from Wynne Broadcasting. Remember too, you can click the link here on the BasinLife.com Homepage….to hear the games too.
