Despite leading by as many as 19 points in the first quarter, the Trail Blazers finished off 2019 with a 122-116 loss to the Phoenix Suns in front of a sellout crowd of 19,896 Monday night at the Moda Center.

The Trail Blazers are now 14-20 overall and 8-9 at home 34 games into the 2019-20 season. With the loss, Portland finishes the month of December with a 6-8 record despite playing just four road games. The loss, Portland’s fourth straight, also ends an 11-game winning streak versus the Suns.

Damian Lillard went 10-of-20 from the field, 5-of-12 from three and 8-of-12 from the free throw line for 33 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds in 38 minutes.

CJ McCollum also shot better than 50 percent from the field to finish with 25 points and six assists in 37 minutes. Hassan Whiteside had 16 points and 22 rebounds for the double-double and Carmelo Anthony added 10 points on 16 shoots.

With their 2019 schedule now in the books, the Trail Blazers now head out for a five-game road trip, which starts in New York versus the Knicks on New Year’s Day. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Oregon Ducks went through their final practice in pads yesterday in preparation for today’s Rose Bowl Football Game matchup against Wisconsin, at 2PM Pacific Time.

Wisconsin is a 2.5 point favorite to win, according to many Las Vegas sports books.

The game will be carried on CBS Sports Radio The Winner KRJW, 106.5FM/1240AM from Wynne Broadcasting,with the pre-game show beginning at noon.

The Oregon State Beavers Basketball team (10-2) opens Pac-12 play against Utah (9-3) at 5:30PM on Thursday at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.
 

Oregon State has won three of its last four Pac-12 openers (70-57 vs. Oregon on Jan. 3, 2016; 76-57 vs. Colorado on Dec. 29, 2017; 77-72 at Oregon on Jan. 5, 2019.

The Beavers have equaled their best start since the 1984-85 team opened 11-1 (the 1989-90, 2011-12 and 2015-16 teams also started 10-2) … Tres Tinkle (1,906) became the 25th Pac-12 player in history to score 1,900 career points; he needs 68 to pass Mel Counts and move into third on Oregon State’s career scoring list .

The No. 6 Oregon Ducks Mens Basketball team dominated the entire way Sunday afternoon in a 98-59 win over Alabama State to close out nonconference play at Matthew Knight Arena. 

Chris Duarte led the way with a career-high 31 points while the Ducks came away with a season-high 13 steals, led by Will Richardson’s arena-record tying six steals. , After leading 7-4 at the first media timeout, the Ducks blew things open with a 19-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 26-6 lead with under nine minutes left in the half. Oregon hit on seven straight from the field at one point during the run, while connecting on 15-of-21 shots to end the half.
 
Addison Patterson and Richardson each provided a scoring spark off the bench, with Patterson going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field with 10 points and Richardson adding seven points.
