Blazers ready for Game 5 tonight against the Nuggets
After a demoralizing loss in quadruple overtime in Game 3, it would have been understandable if the Denver Nuggets came out a bit shellshocked in Game 4. But to their credit they pulled out another dramatic victory over the Portland Trail Blazers to tie their thrilling series at 2-2.
Tonight, in Denver, it’s game five and it’s a big one.
Tonight’s game can be heard on CBS Sports Radio The Winner, 106.5FM and 1240AM.
Yankees drop Mariners
Félix Hernández has pitched many outstanding games against the Yankees over the years. This was not one of them.
The Mariners’ former ace has attempted to revive his career this season by changing up his pitch usage and approach, but the Yankees were having none of that on Monday as they unloaded for seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in five innings — including three home runs in the first two frames — and rolled to a 7-3 victory in the opener of the four-game series.
The 33-year-old Hernández had pitched better of late, relying more on his curveball in lieu of the once-feared hard changeup, which no longer has much separation from a fastball that now tops out at 89-90 mph.
But the Yankees didn’t wait for Hernández to get far into his repertoire as Luke Voit ripped a two-run homer off a first-pitch fastball before he’d gotten an out in the first. Brett Gardner led off the second with a solo shot on a 1-2 fastball and — following an error by third baseman Ryon Healy — Yankees rookie Thairo Estrada launched his first career homer on a first-pitch heater.
Game two of the three game series against the Yanks is tonight.
In college golf, Oregon earned its 13th consecutive NCAA Regional bid Wednesday as it was selected the No. 7 seed in the Myrtle Beach Regional May 13-15 at TPC Myrtle Beach.
The Ducks are coming off a tied for fifth place finish in the Pac-12 Championships, which they hosted at Eugene Country Club last week. It was Oregon’s fourth top-five finish of the season as it ended the regular season ranked No. 40 in the Golfstat rankings.
Klamath Union graduate Craig Ronne will be with the Ducks next week in South Carolina. The freshman has had an outstanding season with Oregon.
