Tim Lopes waited a long time for his first Major League hit, but it turned out to be a moment he’ll never forget as the 25-year-old infielder ripped a two-run Homer in the eighth inning of the Seattle Mariners’ 9-4 loss to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Lopes had been knocked out of his first MLB start on July 25, suffering a concussion on a fastball off his helmet. But in his first game back from the 7-day concussion list, the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder got another chance as a late-inning replacement after Daniel Vogelbach was ejected and he delivered a 397-foot homer to left-center.
They wound up with six hits against the Padres, who remain the only team in Major League history who’ve never recorded a no-no. But the late rally wasn’t enough to avoid a fifth straight loss as Seattle fell to 47-68 on the season.
Coming off a third consecutive trip to the Cascade Conference
playoffs, first year head coach (5th season with the Women) Brandon Porter and
his Hustlin’ Oregon Tech Owls will head into the 2019 season with
renewed excitement, and hopes of extending their conference playoff streak.
Oregon Tech has been picked to finish ninth in
the CCC Pre-Season Coaches’ Poll.
Southern Oregon University was selected as the 2019 preseason favorite after claiming the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title last year. The Raiders picked up seven first-place votes and 183 total points to earn the top spot in the 2019 CCC preseason coaches’ poll, released Tuesday.
It was a close finish as Rocky Mountain College was right behind SOU with 181 total points.
Oregon Ducks starting flanker Brenden Schooler is out six to eight weeks suffering a foot injury that required surgery.
Schooler, a senior, had 21 catches for 203 yards and a touchdown and had seven tackles on special teams last season and was named first team all-Pac-12 as a specialist in back-to-back years.
Junior Johnny Johnson III took over with starters Juwan Johnson and Jaylon Redd during Tuesday’s practice, but freshman Josh Delgado is Oregon’s backup flanker and fellow freshman Mycah Pittman, who is behind Redd at slot, is having a tremendous start to fall camp.
