Blazers up two games to none over Thunder.
The NBA Playoffs are usually defined by star players. Tuesday night, Portland’s stars came out big time.
Portland’s starting backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined for 62 points to lead the Trail Blazer to a 114-94 victory versus the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game Two of their first-round playoff series.
The Trail Blazers now lead the series 2-0 with the next two games to be played in Oklahoma City. Portland has not led a playoff series 2-0 since the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs.
McCollum led all scorers with 33 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field, eight rebounds, five assists and a steal in 36 minutes. It is the fifth time in McCollum’s career that he’s scored at least 30 points in a playoff game.
The series moves to Oklahoma City for Game Three, scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio The Winner, 106.5FM and 1240AM.
Mariners drop to Cleveland. Their Major League-record home run streak rolled on Tuesday, but the Mariners were more concerned with a five-game string of losses that continued unabated as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Indians.
Jay Bruce’s solo shot off reliever Neil Ramirez with two out in the eighth extended Seattle’s streak to 20 consecutive games with a homer. It was Bruce’s eighth blast of the season.
Bruce is hitting just .175, but eight of his 11 hits have cleared the fence, including a soaring 437-footer to extend the record on Tuesday.
But after flexing those muscles early en route to a 13-2 record, the Mariners have dropped to 13-7 and fell out of the American League West lead for the first time after the Astros topped the A’s for their 10th straight win.
An afternoon game wraps up the three game set with Cleveland today.
The No. 2 Oregon State baseball team took care of business on the road against a very good Arizona State team this past weekend as the Beavers (25-8-1, 11-4 Pac-12) clinched the series with Saturday and Sunday wins over the No. 13 Sun Devils (27-7, 10-5).
Oregon State is the defending NCAA Division I baseball champion.
With Easter on Sunday, the Pac-12 shifts all baseball series this week to a Thursday-Saturday format.
The biggest takeaway from this is that all of Oregon State’s (as well as Arizona’s) pitching staff will be going on a days less rest.
