Graduation Sensation: Students Flock to Main Street
A Klamath Union High School senior proudly displays sequins she adorned on her cap before the start of the Graduation Sensation scholarship award ceremony on Thursday. More than $40,000 in scholarships were awarded to students in attendance.
“Today’s successful Graduation Sensation parade and party couldn’t have occurred without the efforts of so many people: the Klamath Promise partners, all the enthusiastic volunteers, the scholarship and gift card donors and presenters, so many school teachers and administrators, businesses, nonprofit organizations, the City of Klamath Falls and its Streets, Parks and Police departments, Klamath County Board of Commissioners and the Klamath County Library Service District, and so many others,” said Anne Hiller Clark of the Klamath Promise.
“Thank you to everyone! I’m always impressed with our community’s generosity and the support of its young people. Today was no exception.”

The Henley Hornets Boys baseball take on Banks High School at the Volcano Stadium in Kaiser, Oregon, for the 4A state title, Saturday morning at 10AM. Hear the game on 1240AM & 106.5FM The Winner CBS Sports Radio.
The Henley Hornets Girls Softball team play for the state championship title Saturday afternoon at 5PM in Eugene at the U of O Softball Stadium against La Grande. It’ll be the third year in a row the Henley Girls will be playing for the title. That game will also be heard in Klamath Falls on 1240AM & 106.5FM The Winner CBS Sports Radio.
Cardboard Regata a floating Success
If you have that sinking feeling, you’re not alone.
That was part of the fun Wednesday evening as students from four high schools in Klamath Falls competed in the 15th annual cardboard boat race.
The students paddled across Moore Park marina in boats made solely from cardboard, duct tape and plastic wrapping.
Schools participating included Mazama High School, Klamath Union High School, Henley High School and Hosanna Christian Academy.
The marina was full of students, alumni and parents cheering on their friends and family. It was a sunny day, and even the students who ended up overboard seemed to have a great time.
Klamath County School District will add 4.5 teachers
The Klamath County School District’s 2019-20 budget will add 4.5 full-time teaching positions, purchase new textbooks, and increase mental health services while funding all current programs.
The district’s The district’s budget committee earlier this month unanimously approved the $108.2 million budget, which maintains all programs, including elementary PE, middle and high school athletics, technology instruction, college-aligned pathways, engineering and STEM, and co-curricular programs like FFA, FBLA, DECA, drama, yearbook, robotics and music.
The Klamath County Board of Directors is scheduled to adopt the budget at its June 20 board meeting.
Greg Walden Town Hall Set for Merrill, Oregon, Saturday
U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Hood River, will hold town halls in Lake and Klamath counties this week.
“I’m looking forward to hearing from people in Lake and Klamath at these town halls and providing them with an update on the issues I’m working on back in Congress,” Walden said in a press release.

Linthicum Honors Fallen Klamath Falls Native
State Sen. Dennis Linthicum was honored to carry and support, SCR 2, which recognizes and honors Klamath Falls native, Cpl. Jimmy Erik Floren (1946-1967) for his service to his country.
Jimmy Floren was born and raised in Klamath Falls. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1964, according to a press release
Two years into an architecture degree at Oregon State University, he put his life on hold and joined the United States Marine Corps.
