The Portland Trail Blazers secured their sixth consecutive playoff berth with a 148-144 victory versus the Nets in double overtime Monday night in front of a sellout crowd of 20,188 at the Moda Center.

The Trail Blazers are now 46-27 overall, 29-9 at home and have swept the season series with the Nets 2-0. Portland finishes a four-game homestand, their last of the season, with a 4-0 record and have now won seven of their last eight. The Trail Blazers are four games back from the Western Conference-leading Warriors but trail the Rockets for third by just a half game.

But despite the win and securing a postseason berth, Monday’s game was not a joyous occasion, as Trail Blazers starting center Jusuf Nurkic suffered a serious injury to his left leg in the second overtime. Nurkic had to be taken off the court on a stretcher, and all signs indicate the 7-0 Bosnian broke at least one bone in his left leg and may be gone for the season.

To make matters worse, Stotts announced prior to Monday’s game that CJ McCollum, who has missed the last four games with a muscle strain in his left leg, will not travel with the team on their upcoming four-game road trip.

In college basketball playoff action, the Oregon State Women landed a fourth consecutive Sweet 16 berth Monday night as a second-half surge led the Beavers to a 76-70 win over Gonzaga in an NCAA women’s basketball second-round game in Gill Coliseum.

Oregon State (26-7) advances in the tournament to the Albany (N.Y.) regional, where the Beavers faced top seed Louisville on Friday.

In high school softball yesterday in Medford,  Mazama beat 6A South Medford 15-5 and Brookings-Harbor 12-3 in the North Medford invitational.

Henley was successful as well, defeating Bend 11-2 and Del Norte, California 13-2.

In baseball, at the Newport spring break tournament, Henley will meet Estacada at noon today.

Mallex Smith has been waiting all spring to get back into action for the Seattle Mariners. The speedy center fielder finally got the chance Monday in an 8-0 exhibition loss to the Padres at T-Mobile Park as he takes aim at being ready for Thursday’s home opener.

Seattle hosts the Boston Red Sox beginning Thursday, and will meet the Padres again tonight in their final exhibition contest.

TUESDAY SPORTS SCHEDULE for Tuesday, March 26th!

Mariners: San Diego at Seattle, exhibition, 1 p.m.

College baseball:
