NSF’s Newest Solar Telescope Provides Closest View in History

So what is pictured here? You are looking at an image produced by the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope.

The telescope has produced the highest resolution image of an object we see on a daily basis (Photo Credit NSO/AURA/NSF) and it’s the highest resolution image ever of the sun.

The picture is 18 miles in size and shows a pattern of boiling gas that resembles a cell-like structure. Don’t be fooled by that cellular look. Each of those cells are the size of Texas!
