The 2022 Passport gets a sporty new look
This year, the Passport has shed its previous rather anonymous appearance, boasting a chunky grille, squarer proportions and more rugged rear bumpers. With the new TrailSport model, the look gets upgraded with an 18-inch wheel and tire combination, and wider front and rear tracks that improve stability.
Updates across the lineup include a standard rear-seat reminder, and the EX-L trim now has contrast stitching on its leather-trimmed seats. You can also opt for the Honda Performance Development (HDP) appearance package, which includes a unique grille, black fender flares, specific wheels, and an HDP graphic on the rear fenders.
A true workhorse
The 2022 Honda Passport has a comfortable 7.5 inches of ground clearance and can tow up to 5,000 pounds, making it a true workhorse. Inside, front seats are wide and comfortable with adjustable arm rests. Up to five people can sit comfortable in the back, and there’s 41 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seat — enough for 15 carry-on suitcases. When that row is folded down, the space will carry 33 bags. There’s also lots of interior cubby storage for all the small bits and pieces that come with an active family.
Standard infotainment includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth and various power points. Upgrade choices include a 115-volt outlet, built-in navigation, more powerful audio a Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless phone charging.
Driver-assistance safety features include forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, with blind-spot monitoring on the top two Passport models.
MotorTrend gives a thumbs-up to this rugged family SUV, saying, “Terrific build quality is expected of a Honda, and the Passport delivers. All told, it’s a solid and versatile SUV.”
Pricing starts at a bit more than $39,000 for the Ex-L, around $44,700 for the TrailSpot and around $46,700 for the Elite. Car and Driver recommends the EX-L, saying, “Even though the EX-L is technically the base model, it comes equipped with a plethora of desirable features such as leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a large touchscreen with smartphone-mirroring functionality. All-wheel drive is a $2000 option.”
