The Klamath Tribes has donated $500,000 to Chiloquin Junior/Senior High School’s track and field renovation project.
“We appreciate the Tribal Council’s ongoing support of our schools and communities,” said John Rademacher, chair of the Klamath County School District Board of Directors. “This generous donation will go far to make this facility a place of which the Chiloquin community can be proud.”
Work is underway on the Chiloquin Junior/Senior High School track and field renovation. Rocky Mountain Construction is contracting with the district for the groundwork.
The $500,000 will be used to upgrade the lighting, concessions, restrooms, and bleachers for the track and field facility.
The overall project includes two parts: a new turf infield and a track renovation. The infield should be completed by early winter; the track by early spring.
The school district is using $1.2 million in ESSER funds for the two projects. Work has started, and contractors from Rocky Mountain Construction last week were leveling and compacting the area.
School districts can apply for and receive federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds to address the impact of the pandemic on schools. The Chiloquin track and field renovation will provide usable outdoor space needed for student use during pandemic protocols.
The current facility was in need of upgrades, and the field was unusable because of lack of water due to ongoing drought conditions.
