After an eighth place NAIA world series finish last year that ranks in the top three finishes in program history, Oregon Tech softball returns eight players for the 2020 season, which opens with a doubleheader against Pacific University in Medford at U.S. Cellular Field at 12:00 pm on February 1st.

The Owls finished the 2019 season with a 44-17 record that included head coach Greg Stewart‘s 500th career win on February 24.

The Lady Owls had a 23-4 conference record that gave them a second-place seed in the Cascade Conference tournament also earning them a berth to the NAIA Opening Round Championship. It marked their eleventh appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, including their ninth appearance in the last 10 years. Tech has now played in the NAIA Opening Round Championship game six years in a row.

Running back Marshawn Lynch was non-committal when asked if he wanted to come back to play next season for the Seattle Seahawks, but it’s entirely possible that Sunday’s loss in Green Bay was the 33-year-old running back’s last with the team.

And if that indeed was it for Lynch, his teammates were thrilled to have gotten to play three more games with the player who became a Seattle icon in his first stint with the team from 2010-2015.

Lynch, who signed with the Seahawks in Week 17 having not played since October of 2018, filled a need for a team that had lost its top three running backs to season-ending injuries. Lynch scored four touchdowns in three games with the Seahawks, but his bigger impact might have come off the field in how he mentored young players, especially rookie running back Travis Homer.

Seattle’s season came to an end with a 28-23 loss at Green Bay yesterday.  The Packers meet the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game next weekend.

On the college basketball court, Oregon State used a big second-half run to seize control and then pulled away from the #24 Arizona Wildcats for an 82-65 victory Sunday night their Pac-12 men’s game at Gill Coliseum.

Tres Tinkle scored 20 points to go with six rebounds, seven assists and three steals, and the Beavers bounced back from their first home loss of the season to split the weekend’s games against the Arizona schools

Ethan Thompson added 18 points and eight assists for Oregon State (12-4, 2-2 Pac-12)

The Beavers shot 54 percent from the field and 44.4 percent (8 of 18) on three-pointers. OSU held Arizona (11-5, 1-2) to 39.6 percent shooting and 29.4 percent (5 of 17) from three-point range.
