The mission at Klamath Village Volunteers in Action is “To promote dignity, well-being, security, and independence for Southern Oregon seniors and adults with disabilities”.
To help further our reach to this population, we have put in place a new model called “The Villages” in Klamath & Lake Counties. This is a program that is being implemented worldwide in an effort to help keep senior citizens and adults with disabilities living in their homes, rather than moving in with family or to care facilities.
We call this “Aging in Place”. We do this through the work of volunteers, community partners, grant funding, and in-kind donations. We have also partnered with various agencies, such as DHS-Adult Protective Services (APS) and Adult Persons with Disabilities (APD), Klamath Basin Behavioral Health, Klamath County Public Health, Sky Lakes Medical Center, All Care, Pro Quality Home Care, High Desert Hospice, Klamath Works Connection, and The Blue Zones Project.
The Klamath Village & Outback Strong Village are great assets to seniors and adults with disabilities in our communities. The Villages provide volunteer services to seniors such as transportation for shopping and appointments, help with housework, handyman project help, friendly visitations, yardwork, assistance with minor home repairs, and support during medical appointments to name a few.
Here’s the deal: We currently have nearly 60 senior citizens and adults with disabilities in Klamath and Lake Counties requesting volunteer services and just eight volunteers actively helping folks at this point. We are asking area businesses and agencies to consider donating a certain amount of employee hours each month to help us meet the needs of some of our most vulnerable citizens-senior citizens and adults with disabilities. Donations of employee hours are tax-deductible. Please consider joining us by committing to donating one or two hours per month of volunteer hours for each of your employees who are eager to help.
The bottom line is: We need more volunteers! We need you! Volunteering for our Villages is simple and is according to our volunteer’s schedules. We will greatly appreciate any amount of time you wish to contribute.
