WEEKEND BOX OFFICE
After three weeks in theaters, Sony’s Bad Boys for Life is now the highest-grossing installment in the action-comedy series. The Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led threequel has made $291 million globally to date, pushing it past previous franchise record holder, 2003’s Bad Boys II and its $271 million haul. The first movie, 1995’s Bad Boys, ended its box office run with $141 million worldwide.

SUPER BOWL 54 ATTRACTED 102 MILLION VIEWERS _ With 102 million pairs of eyeballs, Super Bowl 54’s viewership was slightly up from last year’s 100.7 million but down from Super Bowl 52’s 103.4 million in 2018.
… The 102 million number includes those who streamed the game. The number who tuned into to Fox for the televised broadcast was an estimated 99.9 million.
… Super Bowl viewership had been slowly eroding since its peak in 2015, when 114.4 million watched a thrilling finish between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.
THE STORY BEHIND GOOGLE’S 2020 SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL _ Google ran an emotional Super Bowl LIV commercial last night called Loretta. The ad featured a man asking Google remember certain things about his late wife. The Google commercial is based on a true story.
… To recap, the commercial begins with a man typing into Google “how to not forget,” and then asking his Google Assistant device to show him photos of his late wife named Loretta. The man continues to ask Google to remember certain things about her, like the fact that she hated his mustache, loved going to Alaska, and always snorted when she laughed. At the end, Google recites all of the things the man had asked the device to remember. It closed out with the man saying, “remember I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
… Turns out the heartbreaking ad was actually based on the real-life story of a Google employee’s 85-year-old grandfather. What’s more, the voice in the commercial is the man the ad was first inspired by.
BABY NUT BUSTED BY TWITTER _ Twitter is suspending meme accounts from nut company Planters for violating its rules on spam and platform manipulation. In a statement, a spokesperson for Planters said Twitter found the accounts BabyNutBaby, BabyNutMemes, and BabyNutLOL did not comply with their policies.
… Twitter’s rules do not allow accounts to “artificially amplify or suppress information or engage in behavior that manipulates or disrupts people’s experience on Twitter,””especially as it concerns commercially motivated spam and multiple accounts.
HAMILTON MOVIE, WITH ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST, TO HIT THEATERS NEXT YEAR _ For all those who have been unable to afford, or even find, tickets to Hamilton, there is going to be a solution: A filmed version of the stage performance will be distributed to movie theaters late next year. The blockbuster musical was filmed in June 2016, during one of the last weeks when the original Broadway cast was still intact. The producers, who include the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, have been sitting on the film since, trying to weigh when would be the best time to release it to the public. The decision: The Walt Disney Company will release it on October 15, 2021, a little more than six years after the show opened on Broadway.
… Disney reportedly shelled out $75 million for the worldwide rights to the show, which includes the theatrical run followed by a debut on the Disney+ streaming service.
JEOPARDY! ANNOUNCES ‘FAB 15’ PLAYERS COMPETING

Jeopardy! is bringing together 15 of the country’s most studious students for
the most important test of their lives. The game on show on Monday revealed the
full roster for its 2020 College Championship, which will award one winner a
$100,000 grand prize “and a berth in the next edition of the Tournament of
Champions.” The games begin on Monday, April 6.

INDIANA JONES 5 IS NOT A REBOOT _ Hollywood producer Kathleen Kennedy says the next Indiana Jones movie — No. 5 in the franchise — will not be a reboot. Kennedy says: “We’re working away, getting the script where we want it to be and then we’ll be ready to go. Harrison Ford will be involved… It’s not a reboot. It’s a continuation.”
A POE DAMERON ORIGIN MOVIE IS IN THE WORKS _ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have concluded the Sequel Trilogy, but it surely won’t be the last time we see many of its cast. Source say Disney/Lucasfilm aren’t finished with John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron.
… The sources say Lucasfilm is in the early stages of planning out a solo film for Poe, which would explore the origins of both the ace pilot himself and the Resistance as a whole.
HOBBS & SHAW WILL LIKELY BE A TRILOGY _ The newly-christened Fast Saga has traveled an awful lot of miles since its earliest days as a story about illicit street racing. The franchise finally launched its first spinoff last year, teaming antagonists-turned-antiheroes Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. Hobbs & Shaw, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham was a box office success, so it’s no surprise that, according to sources, it’s going to be the first in a trilogy of movies.
#JUSTICEFORJOHNNYDEPP TRENDS _ Amber Heard and Johnny Depp reached a divorce settlement on August 16, 2016, but the messy celebrity separation is still a fiery war of words. Bombshell audio has been released where Amber Heard confesses that she physically attacked Johnny Depp, even throwing pots, pans and vases at her then-husband. The audio has prompted the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp to trend on Twitter.
… The audio is from a two-hour therapy session in 2015 when the celebrity couple attempted to fix their toxic marriage. The explosive audio, which was published in the Daily Mail, has Heard talking about getting “physical” and “hitting” Depp.
… The 56-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star told his then-wife, “Baby, I told you this once. I’m scared to death we are a
[expletive]
crime scene right now.” Depp admitted that he pushed Heard.
… The couple met on the set of the 2011 movie The Rum Diary, they got married in 2015, and were divorced less than two years later. Heard filed a restraining order against Depp and alleged that he threw a cellphone at her face. Depp paid Heard a divorce settlement of $7 million, which she donated to charity.
PAMELA ANDERSON SPLITS WITH HUSBAND AFTER 12 DAYS _ Pamela Anderson has split from Jon Peters after being married for a grand total of 12 days. Anderson married the 74-year-old movie mogul in a secret wedding ceremony in Malibu, California, on January 20. In less than two weeks of not-so marital bliss, the 52-year-old Anderson announced that they have decided to “uncouple.”
… In a statement released by her rep, Anderson said: “I have been moved by the warm reception to Jon and my union. We would be very grateful for your support as we take some time apart to reevaluate what we want from life and from one another.”
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3 WILL WRAP WHAT WAS STARTED _ From Iron Man to Captain America, it’s been an unofficial rule of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that every non-Avengers series stops after three films. Even next year’s Thor: Love and Thunder — which will technically serve as the fourth of its kind — will see a passing of the hammer to a new God of Thunder.
… Guardians of the Galaxy Director James Gunn implied that the next film will wrap things up. When asked if Vol. 3 will wrap up the series, or if there are further storylines planned for the characters, the filmmaker had this to say: “If everything goes to plan it will wrap up the stories I started in Guardians 1.”
… Marvel’s Phase 4 kicks off with the release of Black Widow on May 1st.

A BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN DAY COULD HAPPEN IN NEW JERSEY _ Residents of New Jersey may be able to say “Happy Bruce Springsteen Day” on September 23. State Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle has introduced a proposal to make that date, the Boss’ birthday, Bruce Springsteen Day.
THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS RENEWED BY CBS FOR 4 MORE YEARS _ CBS has renewed daytime drama The Young and the Restless for four more years. The series has been airing on CBS for over 47 years and will continue on through the 2023-24 broadcast season.
… The series stars Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), who recently celebrated 40 years on the show, Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott), who celebrated 30 years, Joshua Morrow (Nicholas Newman) and Sharon Case (Sharon Newman), who celebrated 25 years, and Bryton James (Devon Hamilton), who celebrated 15 years.
… Next month, Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) will also hit the 40 year mark.
GAL GADOT TEASES ‘SOMETHING CRAZY’ IN WONDER WOMAN SEQUEL _ Gal Gadot is getting fans excited for Wonder Woman 1984. Gadot explains: “In this one, she’s been around. She’s much wiser and mature and lonely. And then something crazy happens that changes the whole game.” Wonder Woman 1984 comes to theaters in June.
MISERY REMAKE REPORTEDLY IN DEVELOPMENT _ A remake of the movie Misery is in the works. The 1990 original was directed by Rob Reiner and starred Kathy Bates and James Caan. Based on the Stephen King story, a famous author who is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse.
EMILY BLUNT HAS REPORTEDLY MET WITH MARVEL _ Back in the early days of Marvel movies, Emily Blunt was in the running for the roles of Black Widow and Peggy Carter before having to pull out of both parts. A source says Blunt met last year with Marvel Studios. No word on what film or role they discussed.
CONTAGION SEES HUGE SPIKE IN STREAMING SALES DUE TO CORONAVIRUS _ Steven Soderbergh directed a movie called Contagion in 2011 and it featured an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard and Laurence Fishburne. Thanks to the coronavirus, Contagion has moved into the top 10 most-sold movies on iTunes.
… The film is about a virus that spreads across the world, killing countless people and striking fear in all of us for its realistic depiction of a potential outbreak.
