OZZY OSBOURNE WILL PRESENT AT 2020 GRAMMYS _ After revealing his Parkinson’s diagnosis on Tuesday, Ozzy Osbourne is scheduled to present at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The 71-year-old opened up about his recent health battles on Good Morning America and is shedding light on living with Parkinson’s disease since last February.
SHARON OSBOURNE THANKS FANS FOR ‘OUTPOURING OF LOVE’ _ Fans of Sharon Osbourne and her husband, legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, were shocked this week when Ozzy revealed on Good Morning America that he was battling stage 2 Parkinson’s disease.
… Sharon addressed the news on her program The Talk later on Tuesday, saying, “I’m good. I feel very good. I feel very strong. People have been amazing with their outpouring of love for my husband, and I thank you. Friends that we haven’t spoken to in years have come out and supported Ozzy, and it makes me feel good. And to everyone, thank you.”
OSCARS TO FEATURE FEMALE ORCHESTRA CONDUCTOR FOR THE FIRST TIME _ A woman will be conducting at the Oscars for the first time. Irish-born composer-conductor Eímear Noone will conduct excerpts from the five nominated scores. She is the first female to lead the orchestra in the history of the televised awards.
BILL MURRAY CONFIRMED FOR GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE _ One of the biggest questions surrounding the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife was how much the original cast members would factor into the story. We now know Bill Murray has been confirmed. And in a rare interview, Murray offered p up some vague hints on the story: “Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal. And that’s the story we’re telling, that’s the story they’ve written. The script is good, it’s got lots of emotion in it. It’s got lots of family in it, with through lines that are really interesting. It’s gonna work.”
CAPTAIN MARVEL SEQUEL IS IN THE WORKS _ Unsurprisingly, a Captain Marvel sequel has been confirmed. Marvel is moving the action from the 1990s to the present day. Marvel is hoping to release the sequel in 2022.
SQUARESPACE’S SUPER BOWL AD WILL FEATURE WINONA RYDER _ Website builder Squarespace is returning to the Super Bowl this year with an ad starring Stranger Things actress Winona Ryder visiting her hometown.
DIRECTV SATELLITE IN DANGER OF EXPLODING OUT OF ORBIT _ DirecTV will move one of its satellites because it’s in danger of exploding out of orbit. The company said the battery cells on the satellite — named Spaceway-1 — pose a “significant risk” of bursting. DirecTV said it needs to conduct an emergency operation in order to reduce the danger of an explosion.
… The satellite is a backup and DirecTV doesn’t anticipate any impacts on customers. The company is replacing the bad satellite with another satellite.
KATEY SAGAL TO STAR IN REBEL, ABC’S ERIN BROCKOVICH DRAMA _ Married with Children star Katey Sagal has signed on to star in the ABC drama Rebel. The show is based on the life of famed consumer advocate and environmental activist Erin Brockovich today, long after Julia Roberts portrayed her in the 2000 film Erin Brockovich. Sagal will play Annie “Rebel” Bello, a blue collar legal advocate without a law degree. ABC describes her as “a funny, messy, brilliant and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves.”
PASSENGERS CALL FOR A LYFT, GET WILL SMITH AS DRIVER _ Four Florida passengers were in for a shock when actor Will Smith answered their Lyft call and gave them a ride around town. The actor was in Miami promoting his new movie, Bad Boys for Life, over the weekend. He picked up four riders in a 2020 Porsche Taycan, occasionally getting into the attitude of his movie character, detective Mike Lowry, and encouraging passengers to do their best Bad Boys imitation as his partner in crime. Smith made one of his passengers FaceTime with his girlfriend during the trip after the man said his girlfriend watched the original movie every week. Before dropping them off, the actor told each passenger they would receive free rides from the ride-sharing company for the next year.
LAW CLERK NAMED DANNY DEVITO RUNNING FOR PUBLIC OFFICE _ Danny DeVito is running to be a representative of the 45th District of the Pennsylvania State House. Not Danny DeVito the actor — Danny DeVito the 27-year-old Carnie, Pennsylvania, resident. Actor Danny DeVito already had 20 movies under his acting belt when law clerk Danny was born. The younger DeVito is a fan of the older DeVito’s acting, but not his politics. Pennsylvania Danny DeVito is a staunch Republican.
PLANTERS ANNOUNCES MR. PEANUT DEAD AT 104 _ On Wednesday, Planters announced that their 104-year-old “spokesnut” Mr. Peanut will no longer represent the brand following the mascot’s sudden passing.
The @MrPeanut twitter account wrote: “It is with heavy hearts that we confirm that Mr. Peanut has died at 104. In the ultimate selfless act, he sacrificed himself to save his friends when they needed him most. Please pay your respects with #RIPeanut.”
… A spokesperson for Heinz, owner of the Planters brand, teased that the stunt has something to do with Super Bowl 54: “We encourage fans to tune in to Mr. Peanut’s funeral during the third quarter of the Super Bowl to celebrate his life.”
… Fans have flocked to social media to mourn the loss: “Is this a joke cause there’s nuttin funny about it.” And “I’m shell shocked.” Another person tweeted: “Hope he roasts in hell. He murdered millions of his own brothers and sisters just to make a profit. Today is a good day for all peanuts.”
THE KARATE KID IS BECOMING A STAGE MUSICAL _ Broadway may become the next battleground between underdog Daniel LaRusso and local bully Johnny Lawrence. The beloved ’80s classic The Karate Kid is being developed into a stage musical.
JOHN BOYEGA SURPRISES HIS PARENTS WITH A NEW HOME _ John Boyega gave his parents the surprise of a lifetime. The Star Wars actor shared a sweet video on Instagram in which he presented his parents, Samson and Abigail Boyega, with a new home. John told his parents he was bringing them to the home to be interviewed. But once Samson and Abigail were sitting down, John said, “I’d like to say thank you for everything that you’ve done. I’ve decided to do a secret project for a few months and I’m here to tell you there’s no interview. That was a lie. This is your house that I’m presenting to you. This is your new house, it belongs to you.” As his parents remained silent, one of John’s two sisters reasserted his statement by saying, “This is your house.”
SWORD IN STONE AT DISNEYLAND PULLED OUT BY ‘PRETTY BUFF DUDE’ _ “Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone and anvil is rightwise ruler born of England,” reads the inscription on the “Sword in the Stone” sign in front of the King Arthur Carrousel at Disneyland. And because theme park signs constitute legal binding contracts recognized by international law, England has a new king. His name is Sam, and his friend says he’s “a pretty buff dude.”
… The missing sword was first reported by a Disney fan site about a week ago, but at the time the identity of the divinely appointed king was unknown. According to multiple eyewitnesses, a “very burly man” ripped the sword off the prop, earning himself a “broken and jagged” weapon and ownership of England’s throne. One witness said that the new King is his buddy Sam, who’s “a pretty buff dude” who was visiting Disneyland for the first time. The sword has been returned.
HARRY AND MEGHAN NEED AT LEAST $3 MILLION A YEAR _ Now that Harry and Meghan have mostly cut ties with the royal family, they’ll need to generate some income. How much they’ll need to continue to live the lifestyles they’re accustomed to isn’t really known, but at least one estimate is $3 million.
… This, of course, is very doable. Speeches, branded products, books… H&M are going to have no problem covering their costs. In fact, one publisher suggests that should the couple decide to write a book they’ll likely bring in at least $50 million.
RISE OF SKYWALKER IS WORST REVIEWED FILM IN STAR WARS FRANCHISE* _ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is currently the worst-reviewed film in the history of the franchise. As it currently stands, the ninth and final chapter in the Skywalker Saga has a 52% Rotten Tomatoes score based on the reviews of 471 critics.
… To put that into perspective, the worst-reviewed film in the much-hated prequel trilogy, The Phantom Menace, sits at 53%.
… However, The Rise of Skywalker boasts a *significantly higher audience score, which currently sits at a very impressive 86%.
STAR WARS MILLENNIUM FALCON ICE CREAM SANDWICHES _ If you need something to hold you over until all of your back-ordered Baby Yoda merchandise arrives in your mailbox, head to your kitchen freezer and grab a Star Wars Millennium Falcon Ice Cream Sandwich. The frozen, galactic treat was spotted by a Star Wars fan at a Stop & Shop grocery store.
TOM HANKS SLAMS HOAX ABOUT HIM PROMOTING CBD COMPANY _ Tom Hanks took to Instagram on Tuesday to set the record straight on a fake celebrity endorsement featured in a CannaPro CBD ad. The ad featured a photo of the 63-year-old actor, as well as the following quote: “The advances Dr. Oz has made in the CBD industry are remarkable. I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t had the chance to try it out for myself. After using CannaPro CBD for two weeks I was already feeling like a new me.”
… However, the two-time Oscar winner made it clear “this is false and an intentional hoax. I’ve never said this and would never make such an endorsement.”
ANIMATED SERIES SATIRIZING BRITISH ROYALS COMING TO HBO MAX _ Amid a recent flurry of headlines surrounding the British royal family, HBO Max has ordered The Prince, a satirical animated comedy series from Family Guy producer Gary Janetti.
… The Prince is inspired by Janetti’s popular Instagram account, which has nearly 1 million followers and has garnered international media attention for poking fun at the British Royals through the eyes of a young Prince George, the eldest child of Prince William and Princess Kate and a future king.
RESTAURANT LAUNCHED A 3-COURSE ‘MEGXIT’ MENU _ People around the world are obsessed with the unfolding story of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to step back from royal life in the UK. So, naturally, a restaurant decided to capitalize on it. In honor of Harry and Meghan’s move to Canada, M Threadneedle restaurant in London is offering a three-course Megxit menu. The offerings are “a menu without judgement” that specializes in “the finest British and Canadian cuisine” with “elements of ginger and LA glamour” (apparently in homage to Prince Harry’s hair color and Meghan’s actress past).
… If you decide to try out the menu, you’ll be offered Champagne, English sparkling wine, or a Canadian Club Cocktail to kick things off. That’s followed by a three course meal that includes starter options like pig’s head croquettes and a Canadian crab and truffle sandwich. For the main course, you can choose from a 60-day English Dexter strip loin on the bone to share or Maine lobsters with ginger and chili. For dessert, you can go for a pear, rhubarb, and ginger crumble or an “All-American” reimagined Snickers dessert.
… The whole thing will set you back about $85 per head.
DID PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE BUY A CAMPER? _ Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently announced that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family. Shortly afterwards, an image supposedly showing the couple standing in front of a camper as they prepared to start on their new un-royal lives started to circulate on social media. It’s not a genuine photograph of the couple.
While it’s unclear who created this photoshopped picture, a number of RV sellers have used it on Facebook as a humorous advertisement.
HOBBS & SHAW DIRECTOR SET TO REMAKE CULT CLASSIC TV SHOW KUNG FU _ The director behind the camera on Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw (David Leitch) will tackle a modern-day remake of the cult classic ’70s TV series Kung Fu. The show originally ran for 63 episodes between 1972 and 1975 on ABC, with David Carradine playing the title role of Kwai Chang Caine, the orphaned son of an American father and a Chinese mother, who spends his life training to become a Shaolin priest and martial arts expert in 19th century China before traveling to America. Each episode had Caine wandering the Old West to help those in need and dish out some good old-fashioned justice along the way.
NETFLIX SCORES BRADLEY COOPER’S A STAR IS BORN FOLLOW-UP _ Bradley Cooper‘s follow-up to A Star is Born is heading to Netflix. The streaming giant has acquired the rights to the an untitled Leonard Bernstein film, which Cooper is set to direct, star in, and produce from a script he co-wrote.
… Leonard Bernstein was the world-renowned composer behind scores for West Side Story, On the Waterfront, and more, and was called “one of the most prodigiously talented and successful musicians in American history.” The film would span the course of 30 years and tell the “beautifully complex story of the marriage between Bernstein and his wife…”
… Bernstein was born in 1918 and died in 1990.
APPLE TV+ SIGNS JULIA LOUIS-DREYFUS AND MERYL STREEP _ Apple has scored more big names for its newly launched streaming service, Apple TV+, including Veep and Seinfeld star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as well as Meryl Streep.
… Streep will be heard on Apple TV+ narrating an animated short film about Earth Day.
… Louis-Dreyfus hasn’t announced specific details of her projects.
BRIE LARSON REPORTEDLY ASKING FOR EQUAL PAY AND TOP BILLING IN AVENGERS 5 _ Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is the top grossing movie of all time, so it’s no surprise that the studio has the next big team-up event in the works. Sources say Marvel is probably targeting a 2023/2024 release. But with Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Vision out of the picture, who will make up the next team? Well, there are a number of existing heroes who could fit the bill, including Spider-Man and Captain Marvel. A source says Brie Larson, aka Captain Marvel, is pushing for equal pay with her male co-stars and top billing in the movie.
LAURA DERN TO PLAY BARTENDER IN QUIBI’S JUST ONE DRINK _ Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Laura Dern will play a bartender with a sympathetic ear in Just One Drink. The series on the upcoming Quibi streaming service will consist of one-act vignettes between Dern’s bartender character and the customers she serves, all of whom are in various states of emotional disrepair.
… Quibi debuts on April 6, 2020 and will cost $4.99 per month with ads or $7.99 per month without ads.
PAMELA ANDERSON MARRIES _ Pamela Anderson and movie mogul Jon Peters tied the knot in a private ceremony in Malibu over the weekend. The couple, who first dated more than 30 years ago, reunited in recent months and have kept the relationship under wraps. Peters told The Hollywood Reporter: “There are beautiful girls everywhere. I could have my pick, but — for 35 years — I’ve only wanted Pamela. She makes me wild — in a good way. She inspires me. I protect her and treat her the way she deserves to be treated.”
… The marriage marks the fifth for both. Anderson’s exes include rocker Tommy Lee; Kid Rock; and Rick Salomon (twice). Most recently, she was living in Marseille with French soccer star Adil Rami.
