Live by the long ball, die by the long ball. Or so they say.
For the Seattle Mariners, it’s been nothing but living right so far in 2019, as they mashed their way to yet another win Thursday.
The capper was a screaming line drive over the right-center-field fence by Daniel Vogelbach in the top of the 10th inning for a 7-6 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
The upstart Mariners became the first Major League team to homer in its first 15 games. And perhaps even more remarkably, Seattle improved to 13-2 on the season with a rebuilding team supposedly pointed more toward the future.
Only one other American League team since 1988 has started out the year at 13-2 — last year’s Red Sox, who went 17-2 on their way to a World Series championship.
No other club had scored six-plus runs in 13 of its first 15 games, and Seattle’s 15 straight games with a homer breaks the previous record of 14 games set by the 2002 Indians.
Oregon Tech Head Women’s Basketball Coach Scott Meredith announced today the first signee of the 2019-20 season for the Lady Owls. Eastyn Reeves, a 5-4 point guard, will be coming to OIT from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington.
Reeves, a 3-time 2A Greater St. Helens 1st Team All-League selection is also the all-time leading scorer in R.A. Long High School Girls Basketball history with a 4-year total of 1,236 points where she played for Head Coach Jan Karnoski. Reeves is a former WIAA Athlete of the week, she is a two-time 1st team All-Area selection and averaged over 100 assists in her junior and senior seasons.
In softball, the forecast for poor weather conditions this Saturday in British Columbia has forced Oregon Tech and UBC to move its four game series to a three game series with all three games being played today (Friday) starting at 1:00 pm at Softball City, Canada’s Premier Softball Park.
Blazers Playoffs Start Sunday
With a dramatic come-from-behind win against the Kings, the Trail Blazers earned the third seed in the Western Conference Playoffs and a date with the sixth-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder. Portland’s first-round series begins Sunday, April 14 at Moda Center with a 12:30 p.m. start time.
Follow every second of the Blazers post season action on CBS Sports Radio The Winner, 1240AM/106.5FM in the Klamath Basin.
