Car and Driver Magazine: “The F-150 is the most complete and compelling full-size pickup to be found”
By Carolyn Patten
Since Ford came out with the iconic Model T in 1925, America has had a love affair with pickups in general, and Ford pickups in particular.
And out of all the Ford pickups introduced over the year, the F-150 is the undisputed king. It’s the country’s best-selling pickup, with more than 40 million sold over the past 60 years. Each year sees a new set of options and choices, from the light-duty full-size F-150 to the F-series Super Duty, which will see a new, fresh 2020 version hit the market soon. Ford has also announced plans to build an electric version in the F-Series, though specific details and timing are not yet available.
Every review of the hugely popular F-150 gives it the highest marks for a balance of utility, comfort and downright luxury. From its military-grade aluminum-alloy cab and bed, to its towing and hauling capacity to a slew of high-tech features, this is truly best-in-class.
Klamath Falls Ford has one of the largest selection of America’s favorite pickup truck, the Ford F-150, in Southern Oregon, with every option, bell and whistle, and an impressive inventory of both new and used models available to test drive.
With three cab and bed styles and many appearance packages, the F-150 can be customized for a vast range of jobs and personalities. There’s an excellent selection of sophisticated engines, most of which pair with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Its strongest engine is a powerful twin-turbo V-6 capable of towing a best-in-class 13,200 pounds. There’s also a 3.0-liter diesel that delivers 440 lb-fit of torque and a Raptor model ideally suited for off-roading.
The Ford F-150 starts at $28,000, and upscale, fully tricked-out versions can easily go over $70,000. Car and Driver’s favorite is the mid-level Lariar SuperCrew with the larger cargo bed, a 325-hp twin-turbo V-6 (upgrade to the 375-hp version for not much more), optional all-wheel drive, standout standard features such as a leather-trimmed front bench with a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and heated and cooled front seats. All models also have a panoramic sunroof and extremely roomy back seats
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the F-150 one of the safest pickups on the market and optional safety features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology and lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist. The F-150 can be equipped with almost every advanced safety system available on passenger cars, plus a clever driver aid that makes the confusing work of backing up a trailer as easy as twisting a knob.
