Music and Arts Academy in Our City Schools
Orchestra and Band will continue to be taught at each elementary school on varying days of the week. Something new this year is that Wednesday afternoons starting September 27,
5th-grade students will have an hour of instrumental music rehearsal followed by arts electives in theater and fine arts at Ponderosa.
“I think this innovative idea is very unique. It gives our 5th-grade students a weekly arts and music enrichment opportunity.” – Paul Hillyer, Superintendent.
Another side advantage for this program is getting the 5th-grade class more familiar with Ponderosa, the school they will be attending within a year.
Initiated by Wendy Savage; this program will give students from all elementary schools an extra hour of rehearsal and a chance to play together across all buildings.
Students will work with band teachers M. Harrington and D. Langley and orchestra teacher W. Savage.
The elementary music teachers who will be assisting in the program are; A. McPherson, G. Harwood, and J. Lemieux.
The theatre portion is an exciting but optional activity for band and orchestra students.
All students will be provided transportation to Ponderosa and returned back to their schools by 4:30. Students who do not wish to participate in the theater option may be picked up by parents at Ponderosa at 3:00 pm.
There will be two student performances for the 2017/2018 school year.
The administrators of the program encourage all students to participate in this special Wednesday Academy and the 21st CCLC after school program.
