Save At School Program at Conger Elementary Teaches Real World Math and Banking Skills

2nd and 3rd graders at Conger Elementary were given the opportunity to open a “Save at School” savings account with Washington Federal.

Real savings accounts can be opened and the bankers will come monthly so the students can make deposits. The program is a great way to teach real-life application math and banking skills. Deposit days will be the 2nd Wednesday of each month for those students that have an active account

This program begins the discussion of short-term and long-term savings with children and to teach basic math skills along with the banking concepts of interest.

“Washington Federal has this unique program that I brought to my classroom a few years ago. They offer the staff to come to the school and match the first $5.00 that the students deposit. I continue to encourage the students by increasing their initial deposit with an additional $1.00 and then give them an extra $.25 per month if they bring in a deposit of their own.”- Gian Christmas
