News from the KUHS Athletic Department

The swim team is practicing at Ella Redkey pool. Yes, its winter and yes, it’s cold outside and yes, it an outdoor pool. Our swim team is tough no doubt about that. Swim has had a huge increase in numbers over the past two years. This year they have 42 participants.

Both men’s and women’s basketball teams are hard at work getting ready for their pre-season tournaments and are totally enjoying the use of our new Pel court and Aux gym. Both teams are really looking forward to having all home games on their new and fantastic looking Pel Court.

Wrestling is also preparing for their new season, and excited about the prospect of having their first home matches in two years. To add to the excitement KU will be hosting the basin side of the Conference Dual Skyline meet. Please come out and support your Pelican wrestlers for this event on Wednesday, January 10th, in Pel Court.

Cheer team has been busy recruiting new members for the winter season and is looking forward to supporting all our winter sports. They are looking forward to returning to the Portland Trailblazer halftime extravaganza in Portland on January 20th at the Moda Center when Portland hosts the Dallas Mavericks

On Saturday, Nov 18th KU hosted the 4th and 5th grade seeded Volleyball Tournament. It was a great tournament with Conger team one taking first, Roosevelt team one taking second and Mills team one taking third.

As witnessed by the rising skill levels of the athletics programs, the Future Pelican/After school program is having positive results. Elementary school 4th and 5th-grade boys and girls make sure to sign up at your schools for the future Pelican Basketball season.

The KU Athletic Department would like to invite all City Schools Elementary Schools 4th and 5th graders to attend KU Basketball home games this year. To get in free just wear your Future Pelican shirt.

Also, January 16th when KU hosts Hidden Valley HS will be designated Mills and Conger night. Those Mills and Conger students wearing their Future Pelican shirts will get a free bag of popcorn. January 26 when KU hosts Phoenix HS will be designated Roosevelt and Pelican night with free popcorn if wearing your Future Pelican shirt. Come and join in the fun while supporting your Pelicans.
