KCEDA Helps Recruit Hotel To Area

Today, Ferguson Hotel Development (based out of Kansas City, Missouri) announced that they will officially be building a new, “one of a kind” Fairfield Inn and Suites hotel along the waterfront of Lake Ewauna on Timber Mill Shores. The hotel will be a 92-room, four-story building, that includes custom exterior colors, a lakeside patio with a fire pit, and exhibit local artwork that incorporates historical themes of Klamath’s old mill site within the building’s interior design and Crater Lake. Additionally, the hotel is centrally placed along the new pedestrian walking trails being developed throughout multiple lots on Timber Mill Shores.

Jeff Sharp, a partner at Ferguson Hotel Development expressed his excitement about locating the hotel in Klamath and commended KCEDA for the efforts they provided during the recruitment process, saying, “We are very excited with the announcement of officially moving forward with the development and construction of a hotel in Klamath Falls, OR. Julie Matthews and the rest of the KCEDA team have been instrumental in providing us assistance with our entire due diligence process. The city and county have also played major roles that made this project more attractive for us to bring a top quality hotel to Klamath Falls. We can’t wait to start
construction and be a part of this community.”

The Klamath County Economic Development Association (KCEDA) began work on the business recruitment project in the fall of 2018. Since then, KCEDA has actively played a major role in the hotel selecting the area, providing a wide array of services to the development firm. KCEDA services utilized for the project, include, but are not limited to: site selection consulting, support with feasibility studies, permitting assistance, market research, as well investigation and execution of multiple incentive options.

KCEDA CEO, Randy Cox, acknowledged the support of Klamath’s local partners on landing the project, as well as expressed enthusiasm as to what the location decision means for the basin, saying, “I am proud of the work of our organization, but even more so the collaborative work provided by our community partners to make this a reality.

Groups like the Klamath County Commissioners, City of Klamath Falls, City Council and Discover Klamath – all played pivotal roles in successfully recruiting this hotel to our area. This accomplishment is very much the result of a strong team effort by these local leadership groups. I am confident that this new hotel has the potential to spur further development opportunities in Klamath, which KCEDA looks forward to capitalizing on.” Julie Matthews, Project Manager for the hotel development, added to Cox’s enthusiasm following the announcement, stating, “It is fantastic to see private investment and new construction going into downtown Klamath Falls.”

Speaking on behalf of one of the many partners involved in the recruitment process was Commissioner Chair, Donnie Boyd, who spoke on behalf of the commissioners as a response to the announcement, saying, “Klamath County is very excited about a new hotel in Klamath Falls, and is very excited for the economic development future of our area.”

Based on figures collected by KCEDA, the capital investment from the company is anticipated to be upwards of $13.75 million. The number of jobs expected to be created by the new hotel is reported to be 24, where the unique form of traded-sector business is expected to subsequently generate a significant amount of additional spin-off jobs for the area.

According to KCEDA, the developer intends to break ground on the project starting the second week of May this year. About the Klamath County Economic Development Association (KCEDA)
